Emma Stone’s upcoming film “Bugonia” is making waves with an unconventional publicity stunt: attendees of its Los Angeles screening are encouraged to shave their heads. The special advanced screening will take place at the Culver Theater on Monday, where the requirement is that participants must be “bald” or ready to become bald.
DoLA, an events platform promoting various activities in Los Angeles, announced this unique event, specifying that those who aren’t naturally bald will have the opportunity to have their heads shaved on-site by a professional barber. The barber will be available two hours before the 8 p.m. screening allowing ample time for head shaving.
The announcement also notes that this screening operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and attendees are advised that securing a ticket does not guarantee entry, so arriving early is recommended. Additionally, a portion of the event will be filmed for promotional purposes.
In a related Instagram post, DoLA emphasized the seriousness of this event, affirming that it will indeed be filmed. The plot of “Bugonia” sees Stone portraying a character who finds herself bald after being kidnapped by two men fixated on conspiracy theories, who believe she is an alien plotting Earth’s destruction.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and based on the Korean thriller “Save the Green Planet!,” “Bugonia” features a talented cast, including Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. The film will have a limited release in the U.S. on October 24, followed by a wider release on October 31.
